Everything about The Vale Tunnel totally explained
The
Vale Tunnel is a railway tunnel in Raytown, Missouri.
It was built by the
Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific railroad in 1905, and is tunnel four of a total of five on the entire Rock Island railroad.
The tunnel is part of the
Kansas City, Missouri to
St. Louis, Missouri line, and travels beneath Bannister Road, and is in Jackson County.
In 1980, the Rock went bankrupt, and liqidated in court, the tunnel was abandoned.
The
Kansas City Terminal Railway used the line for about a year, but it was too far in disrepair to continue use of that line.
It is 441 feet long.
There have been many owners, and court battles over this Rock Island line, and a lot of railways and other companies want to rebuild this line for use, but it's also dismantled in some places.
The next tunnel on this line is the
Eugene Tunnel.
